Ferrero Argentina: identification of 938 MWh/year of potential energy savings

The energy efficiency assessment of its Pilar plant found savings on three fronts: variable frequency drives on motors, thermal processes and compressed air losses.

The starting point

Ferrero Argentina commissioned Grupo Nabla to carry out an energy efficiency assessment of its Pilar plant. The goal was to find out where energy consumption was concentrated and which improvements offered the best balance between investment and savings.

What we did

  • We surveyed the facilities, processes and operating and maintenance routines to identify the main energy uses.
  • We measured consumption in motors, thermal processes and the compressed air system, where we also walked the network to detect leaks.
  • We cross-checked the results against production records and bills to establish a performance baseline.
  • We presented an improvement plan prioritized by savings, investment and payback period.

The result

The assessment identified potential savings of 938 MWh per year, across electricity and gas, split across three fronts:

  • 50%: variable frequency drives on the motors, so their speed follows actual demand instead of always running at full speed.
  • 29%: improvements to thermal processes, reducing gas consumption.
  • 21%: elimination of losses in the compressed air system.
